Ruben Quesada’s debut collection of poetry, Next Extinct Mammal, was published by Greenhouse Review Press in 2011. He received his M.F.A. degree in Creative Writing & Writing for the Performing Arts from the University of California, Riverside in 2007. He is completing a Ph.D. in English at Texas Tech University, where he teaches literature and creative writing. He currently serves as Editor at Codex Journal, Poetry Editor at The Cossack Review, and Contributor at Fringe Magazine. He will begin as Assistant Professor of English at Eastern Illinois University starting fall 2012.
Ruben’s criticism and poetry have appeared or are forthcoming in The California Journal of Poetics, The American Poetry Review, Rattle, Cimarron Review, Southern California Review, and others. His translations of Luis Cernuda and Pablo Neruda have appeared in Stand Magazine and Third Coast, as well as in a chapbook, Exiled from the Throne of Night (2008), from Aureole Press at the University of Toledo (Ohio). Ruben’s awards include fellowships & residencies at Squaw Valley Community of Writers, Lambda Literary Foundation Retreat, Vermont Studio Center, Santa Fe Art Institute, and Napa Valley Writers’ Conference.
He is currently at work on a second collection of poetry, The Personality of the Planet.
